We need more angry women...
Claiming a corner of the internet for when a 3 minute TikTok video isn't enough.
A lifetime of female rage, why are we not allowed to be angry?
I often find myself referring to my female rage; whether it’s men walking into me in the street, filling my comments section with whataboutism’s each time I talk about my lived experiences or the daily news cycle which reminds me of the vulnerability tied to my existence, simply because I am a woman. Female rage is an emotion I know all too well, and yet women aren’t allowed to be angry. To be angry is to be irrational, messy, one of those crazy feminist’s. Angry isn’t sexy- unless you’re Margot Robbie in Wolf of Wall Street- angry isn’t soft, it’s not feminine. But I have to disagree. Female rage is a universal experience; it unites us, it ignites us but it does not define us.
When activist Greta Thunberg set sail on an aid mission to Gaza last month to help elevate the plight of millions of Palestinian’s who are facing starvation by Israel in their refusal to allow aid trucks into the Gaza Strip, Donald Trump suggested she needed anger management classes calling her “strange” and a “young, angry person.” Greta’s response? “I think the world needs a lot of more young angry women to be honest, especially with everything going on right now.”
While angry old men and their egos tiptoe us to the edge of World War Three and gym bro’s with podcast microphones warp the minds of teenage boys we’ve never needed angry women more than we do today. So here we are- angry, ignited, raged and fired up.
My book ‘No One Wants To See Your D*ck’ is just the start of my fight..
After completing the long, fulfilling yet delirious task of writing my first book ‘No One Wants To See Your D*ck’, an investigation into the digital world as misogyny mutates into pixel form, I didn’t want to stop writing. I didn't want to stop using my voice. At a time when the alpha-bro voices have never been louder and commanded more views and streaming sites I think it’s important that women can also be part of the conversation, even if just a small blog post that quietly says F U to a dozen subscribers.
Not every post is going to be life-changing (if any), and while some days I’ll be escaping to this corner to rant about the total clusterfuck of a political landscape we’re living through and the mainstreaming of misogyny, I’ll also be sharing my thoughts on pop culture happenings and navigating life as a thirty something year old who is the only one of my mates to still be renting. Ultimately, this is a space to share my thoughts and start conversations without the threat of my posts ending up on the wrong side of the internet (Here’s looking at you, TikTok algorithm). I hope you’ll join me over here on the side of angry women, lawd knows we need them.
You can buy my book here BTW! Available in Hardback, Kindle and Audiobook.
Welcome, Jess!
